Welcome to the Weekend Roundup! – News & Views – 9/10/22

Pope Francis was elected pope in 2013. Why did it take him nine years to finally declare “zero tolerance” for pedophile priests? Because the Catholic clergy is a good ol’ boys club filled with S&G-ites who always took care of their own before they would protect children. See here for my review of a revealing exposé of the Brokeback Vatican.

The proposed installation of a painting of Saint Rosa and a 20-foot-tall monument to Our Lady of Guadalupe on government property in Santa Rosa, New Mexico is an excellent example why public-funded government has zero business endorsing ANY religion. I wouldn’t want one penny of my tax dollars going towards those idols.

Pope Francis has moved pope John Paul I aka Albino Luciana a step closer to canonization and “sainthood.” Beatification, the step before “sainthood,” is a recognition accorded by the Catholic Church of a deceased person’s alleged entrance into Heaven and their alleged capacity to intercede on behalf of individuals who pray in their name. John Paul I was pope for only 33 days before suffering a (probable) fatal heart attack on 29 September 1978 at the age of 65. JPI will be the fifth 20th-century pope to be canonized. Pope Pius XII (d. 1958) was beatified in 2009, but his now-documented collusion with Adolf Hitler (see here) guarantees he will never be declared a saint. RC-ism’s saint-making process is un-Biblical from top to bottom.

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” – Isaiah 5:20

The Russian invasion has been going on for six months and only now the circumspect Vatican says Russia initiated the war? Shame on Francis and his underlings. After six-months of bloodshed, mass-murder, and unimaginable devastation, are there any American evangelicals left who still laud Vladimir Putin as a champion of “Christian values”?

Few are aware that the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) was the largest institutional slaveholder in the antebellum South.

Last week, we noted that popular actor, Shia LaBeouf, had converted to Roman Catholicism. We’ve since learned that LaBeouf actually converted to the radical-traditionalist brand of Catholicism propagated by his friend, Mel Gibson, a sedevacantist who believes all popes after Pius XII (the Hitler ally, see above) were/are invalid. Many evangelicals misguidedly supported Gibson and his 2004 film, “The Passion of Christ,” which portrayed Mary as the Catholicized co-Meditrix and co-Redemptrix.

This book about Southern Baptist theologian, T. B. Maston (1897-1988), looks interesting. Maston’s devotion to overcoming racism and bigotry within the church was met with great opposition. There’s always a temptation to turn the Gospel into a social project, but the church in America was so wrong about race that correction was needed. See my 2021 post on the topic here.

  1. Thanks, Tom! This is very informative.
Mrs. Pelosi is the queen of an incredible group of politicians – self-professed devout Catholics who are in rebellion against the moral teachings of their own beloved institution.

  2. “Many evangelicals misguidedly supported Gibson and his 2004 film, “The Passion of Christ,” which portrayed Mary as the Catholicized co-Meditrix and co-Redemptrix.” Many believers won’t listen to a drop criticism of that movie! Discernment is at a low level these days. Good Roundup!

    1. Thank you, Cathy! Yes, even my wife said I was imagining things about “The Passion of Christ” propagating Mariolatry until I showed her an article from a Catholic magazine celebrating that very fact.

    1. Thanks for the good comments!

RE: Pope Francis and child abuse
There were a few notorious incidents in the first years of his papacy when he defended abusers and enablers.

      RE: pope and Ukraine
Yup, pragmatic Francis did not want to offend the Russian Orthodox

      RE: Nancy Pelosi wicked
      Amen.

      RE: T.B. Maston
Thanks. I may have to read that book down the road.

  4. I read the Wall Street Journal article about Beatification.

    It is very strange.

This tidbit was in the article:

“As part of the process of beatification, the Vatican normally requires the verification of a miracle—ordinarily, a healing deemed inexplicable according to current medical knowledge—that occurred after people prayed to the candidate for beatification after his or her death, asking the person to intercede with God.

“In the case of the late pope, the miracle was the healing in 2011 of an 11-old-girl in Buenos Aires, Candela Giarda, who was suffering from epilepsy. According to the official Vatican News outlet, Ms. Giarda was unable to attend Sunday’s beatification because of a fracture in her foot.”

I looked up the miracle and found that it happened when the “mother and a local priest prayed to John Paul I.” The young girl seems to have had a serious condition but praying to a Pope is not going to heal anyone.

John Paul 1 died in 1978 and the priest and Candela Giarda’s mother prayed to him in 2011.

Because the girl is a healthy young woman today, it appears that John Paul 1 may now be considered a “Saint” someday.

In Acts 9 the word “saints refers to all the Christians at Jerusalem, not to a special group of Christians. The New Testament uses the word saint or saints 67 times. In every instance, the reference is to all believers.”

I am very glad for this young lady that she is healthy today and I wouldn’t rule out a miracle of God. At the same time, no prayer to a dead Pope is ever going to help anyone.

This article shows, once again, how far from Biblical theology, Roman Catholic belief is.

As always, I appreciate the update, Tom.

    1. Chris, thanks for the interesting information regarding JPI’s alleged miraculous intercession. The RCC’s saint-making process is “interesting” business. The church usually selects well-known clergymen and nuns to leverage their celebrity.
Archbishop and media pioneer, Fulton J. Sheen, was perhaps the most famous American Catholic of his era. After the dioceses of Peoria, Illinois and NYC got done fighting over his cadaver, Sheen was all set to be canonized, BUT investigations into priest abuse in Rochester uncovered evidence that Sheen may have enabled priest pedophiles while he was bishop in the late 1960s. Such is the calculated business of canonization.
That’s correct. The Catholic version of sainthood is absolutely anti-Biblical.
