Another Evangelical pastor caves to apostasy

Back in 2010, Pastor Robert Jeffress of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas stated theRJ Catholic church was an apostate church corrupted by the pagan Babylonian mystery religion:

“It is that Babylonian mystery religion that infected the early church, one of the churches it infected was the church of Pergamos, which is one of the recipients of the Book of Revelation. And the early church was corrupted by this Babylonian mystery religion, and today the Roman Catholic Church is the result of that corruption.”

Now fast foward to 9/24/15. Jeffress’ remarks regarding the pope on Fox News’ Sean Hannity show indicate quite a change in his views on Catholicism:

“I have great respect for Pope Francis. He’s a humble Christ follower. We all can learn from him.”

“With the differences we might have with Pope Francis on some of these secondary issues, I’m not going to quibble about that because, here’s the fact, as this world becomes increasingly darker I find myself having much more in common with my Catholic friends than I even do with liberal Baptists because the fact is we are fighting together against a common enemy, the kingdom of darkness.”

It appears Jeffress has radically changed his views and has compromised the Gospel of grace by joining a number of other Evangelical pastors in embracing works-righteousness Catholics as co-belligerents in the battle for “social morality” and against the “kingdom of darkness.”

  1. Jeffress is just a man after God’s own heart…a man who seeks and desires to know Truth, and he is seeing it now in the Catholic Church.

The Sacred Scripture you quote, historically, pertains to the condition of the early Church under the rule of the secular Roman emperors who required emperor-worship or worship of pagan gods; this was happening while St. John was still alive. Some of the local churches did, indeed, succumb to pressure from the local Roman authorities. Indeed, the Temple in Israel was finally destroyed during this time as well.

        So, the text is not written about the Catholic Church today. Though, we do have struggles with sinners in our ranks, but it has always been the case. Our doors are open to help sinners repent, be reconciled to God, and even our priests are subject to temptation as is and have been every protestant pastor, many of whom have fallen to sin, either publicly or privately.

  2. This is a very sad situation. I don’t know why Dr. Jeffress made the switch. The organized Roman Catholic church bears no resemblance to the true Church of the LORD Jesus Christ with Jesus as its sole head and the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, as its unifying power exalting “Christ alone” among us. “Christ is the head of every man” not the pope or the priests or the organized church. Roman Catholicism seeks to control and mislead men, woman and children through a demonically-contrived system of sacraments and traditions while leading many souls to perdition. The Roman Catholic church has through the millennia persecuted citizens of the true church for simply living according to the Word of God, and looking unto Christ Jesus alone for wisdom and guidance while not submitting to the dictates of false leaders, who are simply wolfs attacking the sheep. The trend towards ecumenism and apostasy was rooted in the social movements of the 1960s, including civil rights, feminism, the hippy movement and the peace movement. (For more on this read “The 1960s Social Movements: Pathways to the Final Apostasy.”) It has led to the present circumstance in which wrong is called right and right wrong, all for the sake of peace and prosperity for all mankind. This is not the Gospel of Our LORD Jesus Christ. Until He comes we will not have true peace or justice but only a world blinded by the god of this age until the curtain of darkness controlling the minds of men is finally removed.
