Welcome to the Weekend Roundup! – News & Views – 6/25/22

It’s been four months since Vladimir Putin, ordered the invasion of Ukraine. Untold thousands of Ukrainian civilians have been killed, injured, or displaced and cities and towns decimated by the Russian dictator, although pope Francis has still not condemned Putin by name. This interesting article examines Francis’ “Jesuitical casuistry” in the face of systematic mass-murder.

Last Sunday, Catholic parishes across the U.S. held Corpus Christi (Body of Christ) processions, in which priests paraded through local neighborhoods holding large Jesus wafers. The Catholic church teaches its priests turn bread wafers into the actual body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ. Last Sunday kicked off a three-year “eucharistic revival” by which the U.S. Catholic bishops will attempt to revitalize the very low regard the majority of Catholics have for the alleged Jesus wafer.

Back in April, I reported that bishop Robert J. McManus of the Catholic diocese of Worcester, Massachusetts formally requested that the Nativity Jesuit Middle School remove its BLM and Gay Pride flags. The administrators refused to comply, so McManus has ruled the school may no longer identify as “Catholic.” This drama will be played out in Catholic schools all over the country.

A special collection is taken up at Catholic parishes on the last Sunday of every June called “Peter’s Pence.” The funds go directly to the RCC’s central administration coffers at the Vatican in Rome, Italy. I wonder if Catholic contributors ever question how much of their money has been diverted to compensating survivors of priest sexual abuse and cover-up.

Leonardo De Chirico has done fantastic work with his Reformanda Initiative and the Rome Scholars and Leaders Network (RSLN).

Catholics are generally stereotyped as opposing abortion, but a recent AP poll found that 64 percent of U.S. Catholics (and 40 percent of Catholic Republicans) agreed that abortion should be legal in most or all cases, almost identical to the 65 percent of all adult Americans who held that view.

Evangelicals shouldn’t consult any Catholic theologians, but there’s a temptation in some egghead evangelical circles to engage in ecumenical intellectual snobbery. Catholic theologians all propagate the RCC’s false gospel of salvation by sacramental grace and merit.

Pope Francis has taken many swipes at conservative U.S. Catholics who pine for pre-conciliar militantism. When a Catholic disparages Protestantism for its multi-fold denominations, remind the person that conservative Catholic talking heads advise their followers to ignore the progressive pope Francis.

I heard Vice President Kamala Harris identifies as “Baptist.” Hmm. A google check revealed she is a member of the Third Baptist Church of San Francisco, which is affiliated with the “social gospel” American Baptist Churches USA. The ABC USA (once known as the Northern Baptist Convention) went apostate generations ago.

Great news!

  1. Good round up. I saw Yeshiva University has to recognize L— clubs and other such entities per their court loss. You may have mentioned this last week and I missed it that the “Vicar of Christ” has announced that ww3 is upon us? Will you retirement begin in the middle of your leaf campaign?! Hope your Saturday work day is steady and not overbearing!!!!

    1. Thanks, Mandy! Yup, sadly, the L*** steamroller won’t rest until everyone capitulates.
I somehow missed that June 14 story of Francis saying Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is WWIII. That’s a bit premature.
My last work day will be October 30, right at the start of the leaf campaign. Thanks for the workday wishes, we’re busier than beavers due to the end-of-quarter push.
Hope you’re having a good weekend!

  2. Hi Tom. I read “Developing an evangelical analysis of Roman Catholicism in Rome.”

This is a very important group and I am surprised that it is centered in Europe. There was this:

“Globally, there are no similar conferences that provide an opportunity for evangelical scholars to grow in their analysis of Roman Catholicism.”

    and this:

“Roman Catholicism is a theological system that, while using words that are very similar to biblical language, is a flawed gospel and certainly different from the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

I appreciate the work of The Rome Scholars and Leaders Network (RSLN), which I had never heard of, and Leonardo De Chirico.

    1. Thanks, Chris. De Chirico has done great work with the Reformanda Initiative and the Rome Scholars. I just wish more evangelicals knew about these resources. De Chirico has also written three excellent books on Catholicism.

  3. As apart practicer of Roman Catholicism I too was pro choice- as a born again believer in salvation through Jesus the Christ ALONE I am a believer in no abortion-no termination of innocent life!

    1. Thanks, Beth. It’s impossible to imagine Jesus Christ condoning the grizzly “work” of an MD abortionist. Pro-abortionists try to dismiss the unborn baby as a “blob” of tissue, but deep down they know better.

  4. I remember when we wanted to use our funds -money WE donated -to upgrade our building “the church”and we couldn’t get it- that was also another beginning of wondering where the money was actually going!!! Lies all of it!!!

      1. And boy you were guilt ridden if you didn’t “tithe” to them- so many people request money be donated to the RCC when they pass away, too☹️

      2. When I was growing up as a child, our parish priest lived very comfortably with his big rectory, driving a Chrysler Imperial, and having a housekeeper.

      3. I’m not sure the ones near us live that well…there was one a few years back that got caught performing an act on a disabled adult in a nearby facility called Shapiro-they shuffled him up north with another priest near a school – until people found out he was there 💔
        Sick-sick-sick.

      4. I’ve often said Catholic seminaries are both magnets and incubators of deviancy. There are the many abusive priests whose names have been in the newspaper the last twenty years, but that’s just the tiny tip of the iceberg.

      5. Yes!
I’ve had so many people think that the boys should go to a group home-I kindly tell them no thank you! I’ll be that 90 year old woman with her two DS boys at the grocery store ❤️
( if that is to be God’s will 🙌)

  5. 1. Wow Putin’s war has been for 4 months. Crazy the pope can’t name Putin. So spineless.

    2. Seems liberal vs Conservative Catholics also spills over with the high school embrace of BLM/gay pride

    3. Grateful for the Reformanda Intiative.

    4. First Things is totally a RC trojan horse operation. Yes they have some good cultural analysis but saying what it is.

    5. Harris is a baptist…wow lol

      1. It’s amazing the Ukrainian people have withstood Russia for this long, but the suffering and destruction have been horrific. A terrible example of the sinfulness of man. The ironic thing is so many American evangelicals greatly admired Putin for being an alleged “defender of Christianity” prior to the invasion.

    1. Thanks for the good comments!

RE: Crazy the pope can’t name Putin. So spineless.

      Absolutely!

      RE: BLM/gay pride flags

I can foresee this “flag battle” heating up at Catholic schools with clerics and some parents taking issue with the flags. I imagine it was some parents who initially tipped off the bishop.

      RE: Reformanda Intiative.

Yup, such a worthy and much-needed project.

RE: First Things is totally a RC Trojan horse operation

Absolutely. Shame on Trueman and other evangelicals who support it.

      RE: Harris a Baptist

      Strictly nominal.
