Welcome to the Weekend Roundup! – News & Views – 11/28/20

The fallout from the 2020 Presidential Election continues as Catholic prelates grapple with the reality of a Joe Biden presidency. After initially congratulating Biden, the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), archbishop Jose Gomez (photo left), later announced the formation of a working group/task force to study the “problems” created by a Catholic president who supports abortion “rights” and LGBT social engineering. Some conservative bishops are openly calling for Biden to be barred from receiving the “Jesus wafer” communion.

While this story made tongue-in-cheek headlines across the globe, I imagine the incident will ultimately be attributed to hackers.

Catholics are still buzzing about the recent Vatican report acknowledging “saint” pope John Paul II’s enablement of pedophile predator, cardinal Ted McCarrick. Has the RCC ever rescinded sainthood for an individual after they were found to have been “seriously flawed”? Don’t hold your breath. JPII will continue to be “venerated” as if nothing happened. Well, we’re all seriously flawed and these revelations about JPII expose the fallacy of the RC’s canonization process and its false gospel of sacramental grace and merit. As we’ve seen from the scandalous headlines over the past twenty years, popes, prelates, and priests are unable themselves to jump through the legalistic religious hoops to merit Heaven that they prescribe to their followers.

Rumors are flying about the forthcoming COVID-19 vaccine/s, with some Christian alarmists saying the vaccine is the “mark of the beast.” Some Catholic bishops have already warned their followers not to get vaccinated because they claim the vaccines were developed using cells collected through abortions. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has countered the accusations with a memo stating that at least two of the vaccines are ethically sound.

Interesting to see the State of New York join with the victims of abuse in suing the RC Diocese of Buffalo for the decades of enablement and cover-up with regards to its predatory pedophile priests.

Back in December 2019, Bethel Redding church and many associated New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) churches made headlines by praying for days for the resurrection of Olive Heiligenthal, the two-year-old daughter of one of Bethel’s singers who had died from complications from a head injury. Olive was not resurrected. Rather than question the monstrous theology of Bethel pastor, Bill Johnston, credulous members continue to drink the Bethel/NAR Kool-Aid.

    1. Yeah, Beth, it’s absolutely sickening to see people being duped by this pseudo-christianity and then being told the miracle didn’t happen because they didn’t have enough faith.

    2. Hey, Beth! When I first saw last year they were calling on folks to pray for their daughter’s resurrection I was incensed and said this will end badly. I am curious as to how many people may have lost faith in Christ because she wasn’t raised from the dead. This is so wrong!!!!

      1. Yes, Mandy!! I thought about that, too!!! It’s not God’s fault but people will use this as an excuse to turn away ☹️😢

    1. LOL! So many believers get caught up in conspireology. I think that when the mark is finally rolled out it will somehow be unambiguously anti-Christian/anti-Scriptural.

  1. I know plenty of non Catholics who REFUSE to have anything to do with a vaccine. I also think the mark of the beast will be something that people will consciously take (even begrudgingly) and that like you said we will know because it will be so anti-Scriptural/anti-Christian.

I saw the Bethel headline the other day and shook my head. It grieves how many people buy into their shtick.

    1. Thanks for the good comments, Mandy! It’s regrettable that some believers get wrapped around the axle over these conspiracy theories. Yup, also regrettable that people follow the NAR scammers.

  2. 1. I think RC should bar Biden from communion, not that he’s really serious about being Catholic. And of course a moot point considering Romanism is still a false Gospel.

    2. I see you cover the instagram incident. That reminds me of the weird incident a few years ago of men without shirts doing gymnastic circus stunts…was kind of weird for me.

    3. I wonder how many more individuals in the process of being a saint or are beatified already or saints already will turn out to be predators in the past and in the future..

    4. Wow NY AG suing RC with abuses!

    1. Thanks for the good comments!

      RE: Biden and RCC
This debate over Biden will be interesting to watch. It’s symbolic of the increasing polarization within the RCC. Pope Francis thinks Biden is fine.

RE: men without shirts doing gymnastic circus stunts
That one never made it on to my radar.

      RE: saints = predators
In the past the RCC used to vet dead candidates for “sainthood” for decades to make sure there was no scandalous information to come back and bite them. The minimum vetting time has been reduced to 5 years and for JPII it was waived altogether because the RCC wanted to capitalize on his celebrity. I imagine some of the celibate Catholic clerics who were canonized over the centuries were sexual abusers but such things were not acknowledged or spoken of even fifty years ago.

      RE: NYAG suing Buffalo Diocese
I’m glad to see the state standing up for the victims. It’s significant news but is buried with all of the other chaos going on.

      1. Concerning sainthood I also think the bar for accepting what is a miracle is also very low as I recall the miracle to beautify Mother Teresa was fraudulent but the details escape me now.
It will be interesting to see the tension between the Pope and American conservative Catholics with a Biden administration

      2. RE: low bar for Mother Teresa

Yeah, the RCC shamelessly exploits the celebrity of famous candidates by rushing them through the canonization process. There’s a “hot” candidate they’re currently fast-tracking who will be featured in next week’s roundup.

        RE: Catholic conservatives vs. progressives

Yup, a Biden presidency is going to add fuel to an increasingly tense stand-off.

      1. Thanks! The Chargers, currently 3-8, are definitely not having a good year despite the remarkable play of their new, rookie quarterback. When the Chargers moved from SD to LA in 2017 it was a big change for my brain to handle after 48 years of following the team.

      2. Wow not use to it being LA chargers instead of SD Chargers must be harder for you than me! What stadiums do they play in? This is how ignorant I am of football lol

      3. I’ve called them the SD Chargers out of habit so often! The Chargers play in the newly-built SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
How’s your “day off” lining up?
