Conservative Catholic clerics begin to react to pope Francis’ approval of same-sex civil unions: “We have a bad pope.”

The conservative Catholic backlash to pope Francis’ call for civil unions for same-sex couples is just beginning to percolate. Watch this 7-minute video as a visibly emotional Catholic priest tells his congregation “we have a bad pope” (3:05 mark). The priest continues by saying he doesn’t know “what vanity, or dark spirits, or fallen inclinations” are guiding the pope.

A “bad pope”?

The foundation of Roman Catholicism is the pope, the alleged “Vicar of Christ.” What does it mean if the pope is a “bad pope” and is not to be followed? The foundation of Roman Catholicism crumbles.

There is another way, a better way. Jesus Christ declared, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6

Church membership doesn’t save. Trying to obey the Ten Commandments (impossible!) doesn’t save. Accept Jesus Christ as your Savior by faith alone and ask the Lord to lead you to an evangelical church that teaches the uncompromised Gospel.

  1. Well said, Tom, there is another way for them, indeed. JESUS CHRIST is the only way (John 14:6-7)! 👍👍 The slant in the national news was more favorable to the lg community but the council of catholic bishops (as an organization) in the country is still silent to the pope’s statement. And I doubt they would say something unfavorable, based on the friendship between the former cardinal of manila and the pope.

    1. Thanks, Kent, for the perspective from PH! Yes, the secular media here in the US will overwhelmingly portray the pope’s approval as a positive. Few conservative Catholic bishops and cardinals will confront the pope directly because he is still their boss, but I expect the semi-independent conservative Catholic media is going to angrily excoriate him.

  2. That’s what happens when you place your faith in a religious institution or a bunch of fallible men.

    1 John 5:9
If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son.

    1. Thank you, sister! This newest controversy is going to be the “final straw” for many Catholics who were already hanging on to their church membership only by a thread. Yes, I pray the Lord uses their despair to lead many to Him.

I’v been following Francis’ controversial papacy very closely for six years, as you know, and this new development is as momentous as anything I’ve seen since leaving the RCC.

    1. Thanks, Mandy. Yes, I’m also thinking this has some apocalyptic implications, it’s just soooo radical, as many things have been in 2020. Yes, I also appreciated the priest’s lack of spin. Catholics are in a quandary. Yup, they need genuine salvation in Jesus Christ.

      1. Yes, marriage is a prime target. The divorce happened in the midst of my very long prodigal “season” and neither one of us was walking closely with the Lord at the time.

      2. Oh, I gotcha now. No problem. I’m very open about our marital fiasco twenty years ago. 🙂 Yes, the family is under daily assault these days with all of this “social engineering.”

      3. Thanks, Mandy! I’ve been following this Vatican-China dirty dealing for a long time so I appreciate the update. I’ll be featuring it my weekend report two weeks out.

    1. 👍🏻
It’s an amazing video and exemplifies what’s going on in many Catholic parishes throughout the world. I can imagine some of the pro-Francis parishioners at this RC church dialing up the bishop and saying this priest is insubordinate.

      1. I think we are going to hear some Catholics sound like Martin Luther in the coming days and months…if only they go all the way a biblical view of justification and salvation too!

      2. Yeah, conservative Catholics will be calling Francis the anti-Christ, like Luther and Calvin did, but for radically different reasons, for not following RC legalism closely enough. So amazing. Francis is every Catholic apologist’s worst nightmare.

  3. I listened to the 7 minute clip of the Catholic priest. I felt sad. Who would ever thought a day in our life time a priest would have to say a bad pope with bad theology? This priest needs Jesus Christ and not just an office of supposed infallibility. Good post brother, very good post, I hope this gets more view

    1. Thanks a lot, brother. As soon as I viewed this video I knew it could tell the story of conservative Catholicism’s deep disappointment with Francis far better than I could. Yup, this priest is also the antithesis of the Gospel and needs Jesus as much as Francis.

    1. Might as well. Francis’ credulous defenders are saying the pope is endorsing these same-sex civil unions with the (unspoken) caveat that the partners will refrain from sexual activity.
