Welcome to the Weekend Roundup! – News & Views – 9/1/18

I was a Roman Catholic for 27 years, and after coming out of Catholicism and accepting Jesus Christ as my Savior in 1983, I’ve been an observer of the church on-and-off for the last thirty-five years and a very keen observer for the last four. In sixty-two years, I’ve never seen anything like the current crisis in the Catholic church with the mounting dissatisfaction among conservative Catholics with pope Francis amidst the revelations this summer of U.S. cardinal, Theodore McCarrick’s long history of pedophilia and sexual abuse, the 300 pedophile priest and cover-up tsunami in Pennsylvania, and, just this past week, the accusation from Catholic archbishop, Carlo Maria Vigano, that pope Francis covered up for McCarrick. Catholics’ faith in their religious institution is being shaken to the core. What’s next? Despite these extremely sordid scandals, the worst sin of the Catholic church is deceiving billions of lost souls with its false gospel of sacramental grace and merit.

No comments needed. The headlines say it all.

I can understand the anger and frustration of people who have witnessed the news reports documenting an endless stream of abusive Catholic priests and the cover-up by the hierarchy for sixteen long years, and now, with these new revelations descending to unimaginable lows, but there is no justification for violence against individual priests who may not even be guilty of such crimes.

Overshadowed by the scandalous headlines this past week was this story about progressive Jesuit priest, James Martin’s call to affirm practicing LBGTers within the church at the World Meeting of Families Catholic conference in Dublin, Ireland.

Also overshadowed was this initiative by conservative Catholics to protest pope Francis’ initial steps in the allowance of intercommunion with Protestants, something conservative Catholics thought they would never see and which contradicts dogma previously held to be infallible.

  1. EXCELLENT POST AS ALWAYS! PRAISE GOD!
The following are 2 verses of scripture- **INSPIRED BY GOD** -that He commanded of HIS people:

    Old Testament: Jeremiah 51:45
45 My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the Lord.
    New Testament: Revelation 18:4
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

    **2 Timothy 3:16-17**
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

P.S. The lies and beguilement of the Roman Catholic church (and all other non and fake peaceful religions of this world) can 100% be refuted though God’s TRUTH and LOVE written in the pages of The Holy Bible ❤

  2. If after all this a Catholic asks him or herself, why am I Catholic?, it should lead them to investigate whether or not what the RCC teaches is true. Many are staying true to “mother church” but that’s because they’re not asking themselves that question. I pray multitudes do ask it.

  3. The Good Lord allowed me time well spent with my mom in law today!!! “Feed my sheep” doesn’t me gourge them- it means feed them what they need as needed that way they will hunger for more after they digest what they have been fed! God will let you know when to do it!!!

    1. I’m currently reading a book that says JPII was very much aware of priest pedophiles and cover-ups but they proclaimed him a “saint.” It will be very interesting to see how these accusations against Francis play out. Right now it’s just the archbishop’s claim with no evidence.

      1. I imagine more will come out and speak out against the Pope in time. Right now Catholicism is also ripe than any time ever for Catholic “faithful” to speak out and also to believe problems with the Pope…

      2. Agree with all. I think the archbishop making these accusations against Francis is very credible. The pope is hoping this blows over but the conservatives are going to use this to try to oust him. Ironic because conservative prelates shielded the pedophiles probably more than the liberals.

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth. I had not heard of this Burlington orphanage before so I did a Google search and read a few of the news stories. Very disturbing. I imagine with these new Catholic abuse scandals in Pennsylvania and Washington coming shortly after the popular #Me Too movement that many more victims will be emboldened to come forward. I’m so sad for the victims but grateful there’s now a mammoth spotlight on this corrupt system.

      1. Yes…I feel the same way 😦 That was how my mom in law and I started talking and she was upset by the recent abuse news…I told her that was bad what went on but most importantly it is what the RC is teaching people…we talked about the rosary and she said she liked it and would probably keep praying it…I said I need to tell you two things before you continue to pray the rosary- (EVER SO GENTLY AND WITH THE LOVE OF GOD) #1 It doesn’t do any good and #2 God tells us we are only to pray to Him through Jesus-no objects,,, she looked a little startled but there was a a look of “i know” on her face that is the only way I can explain it-she even told me the verse of scripture that says we are to have no other gods and I said yes-Mary was a vessel used by God but we are not to worship her-we are only to pray to God through Jesus ❤

      2. I’m grateful the Lord helped you use the abuse scandal news as an opportunity to share more of the Gospel with your MIL. Yes, we sometimes forget that it took us a good amount of processing (led by the Holy Spirit) before our eyes were opened. A little here, a little there. I’m praying for her.
