Romans 8: Wow!

My wife and I are currently reading through Paul the apostle’s Epistle to the Romans together and we are being thoroughly blessed by God’s Word. Last night we read chapter 8. Wow! My soul sang as we read through the verses. Many commentators over the years have mentioned the magnificence of Romans 8, including 17th century German preacher, Philipp Jakob Spener, who wrote, “If Holy Scripture was a ring, and the Epistle to the Romans a precious stone, chapter 8 would be the sparkling point of the jewel.”

Just a few verses:

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” – 1

“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” – 14-16

“For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.” – 22-23

“For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” -26

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” – 28

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” – 31

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” – 35

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – 38-39

Praise the Lord for the Epistle to the Romans and all of His Word. Thank you, merciful Father, for the gift of salvation by your grace through faith alone in your Son, Jesus Christ.

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus Christ as your Savior, what are you waiting for?

    1. Thanks, Hope! I have one of those weird minds in that I have no memory for numbers. I can watch a football game for three hours but have no clue what the final score was afterwards. So I can tell you the general theme of each book of the Bible but chapter and verse I struggle with. But I think I’m going to remember Romans 8 going forward!
