There’s admittedly a lot of junk on television, but heres a show you may want to see. “Martin Luther: The Idea That Changed the World” premiers on PBS, Tuesday, September 12th. Check your local television listings for broadcast times in your area. Let’s hope the Gospel of salvation by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ ALONE is presented. I see from the trailer that Catholic cardinal, Timothy Dolan, is an interviewee so I have my doubts.

    1. Yes, I’m looking forward to seeing it as well, although our local PBS station has opted to wait until Sunday evening to broadcast it. Cardinal Dolan praises Luther profusely in the trailer, which is all part of Catholicism’s ecumenical strategy.

      1. That would be a strange strategy except most people have no idea who Luther was or what he stood for. They can pretty much revise history at this point any way they want, and only a select few will recognize the difference. I do wish more churches would teach church history.

        Sister, you are exactly right! A lot of times I get so insulated in my thinking that I forget that the majority of “evangelicals” and the VAST majority of Americans don’t know what the Reformation was really all about.

      3. I actually only recently within the last six months even began learning of the Reformation in detail. I have a feeling it’s going to be a lifetime effort. There’s so much amazing literature and every individual was uniquely called, maybe that is overwhelming? So far it’s been one blessing after another, like getting to know your long lost great grandparents.

        The ten plus years spent in the church, previous to salvation, I never heard of the Reformation. It was mostly feel good stories, emotionally driven music, and Jeremiah 29:11 verses.

      6. Thanks, sister! Yes, I enjoyed this a lot. Definitely my cup of tea. I listened to the first half today and will finish tomorrow. SLIMJIM provides these seminars from The Master’s Seminary occasionally.

      7. I posted them once and was pleasantly surprised to have SLIMJIM comment that he actually studied at this seminary and took this class. How fun is that? It’s such a blessing to be able to access these lectures and learn so much from the experts. I’m planning on turning them into homeschooling lessons so I can teach my daughter church history. This was the first time he delved into the Reformation and Martin Luther, which I suppose we’ll be hearing a lot more of with it being the 500th anniversary.

      8. There’s definitely some excellent resources available via the internet like this video. I’m on a computer all day with my work so I just plug in my ear bud and I’m good to go. Good that you’ll be teaching your daughter church history. I remember the nuns bad mouthing Luther when I was in parochial school.
