“The true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core.” – from IMDB.

Spotlight started with a limited release last Friday goes nationwide on November 20th. This film goes right to the top of my “must see” list. The molestation of children by priests and other Catholic religious was from the very pit of hell. The subsequent cover-up was traced back to the highest offices of the hierarchy. Thirteen years after the Globe broke this tragic story, priests and their superiors are still being outed.

In 2012, the National Catholic Reporter reported the American church had “spent at least $2.2 billion settling litigation related to the crisis, and that there may have been as many as 100,000 total victims of clerical sexual abuse.”

These days diocesan newspapers publish notices asking victims of clerical sexual abuse to come forward but that certainly WAS NOT the position of the “one true church” twenty years ago.
